JDate® Asks: Do Soulmates Exist? Member Poll Reveals Majority of JDaters Think Not

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., August 7, 2006 – In anticipation of the August 8-9, 2006 celebration of Tu B’Av, the Jewish equivalent of Valentine’s Day, JDate, the leading online community for Jewish singles, asked its members if they believed in one true “beshert” or soulmate. The poll found:

  • 40.2% do not believe that they have one true beshert
  • 34% believe that there is one beshert out there for them
  • 25.7% weren’t sure either way

“Beshert comes from the Yiddish word meaning ‘fated’,” said David Siminoff, CEO of Spark Networks plc, JDate’s owner and operator. “This Tu B’Av, we encourage our members to test fate and get together to begin the ‘‘search” for their beshert – and there’s no better place to start than JDate!”

Tu B’Av was a day of joy and a matchmaking opportunity for unmarried people when eligible maidens danced in vineyards wearing white garments, where young men could admire their grace and consider them for marriage.
