Senior Web Developer

Job Summary:
We’re looking for front end developers who love working with JavaScript, AJAX, HTML, and CSS. The successful candidate is a coder with an aesthetic eye, operates with a high standard of execution, and has a passion for delivering compelling user experiences. The Front End Developer is responsible for a project’s look and feel. We want the Front End Developer to fully immerse him/herself in every project’s subject matter becoming the front-end expert for each project.
The Front End Developer will become very familiar with the tone, emotion, and attitude of our websites. He/she will work closely with the rest of the Engineering team as well as the Product, Quality Assurance, and Creative teams to create exceptional experiences for our customers. He/she must keep current with developments in relevant fields, new technologies, competitive trends, and emerging standards. This role requires excellent verbal and written communication skills.
This position will cover the breadth of sites at Spark Networks. The ability to thrive in a very dynamic environment is a must as the projects and sites may shift very rapidly to where our current business interests lie. In addition, this position will be working on sites built on different technology stacks (LAMP, ASP.Net, Java, Python/Jango, Cold Fusion) so the ability to adapt to those technologies and excel with them will be tested. Previous experience working with multiple technology stacks will be of significant benefit.
Essential Functions:
- Write, maintain, and integrate the JavaScript, AJAX, HTML, and CSS across many of the company’s websites.
- Execute workload based on specifications and designs from the Product and Creative teams.
- Champion clear and concise standards based on development for our JavaScript, AJAX, HTML, and CSS layers.
- Work with middle tier engineers to integrate front end code with the middle tier.
- Help define and drive a long term strategy for our front end technologies and architecture.
Minimum Qualifications:
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE
- 3+ years of AJAX scripting using JavaScript preferably with multiple AJAX frameworks
- 3+ years writing HTML/XML
- 3+ years writing standards-based CSS
- Experience and knowledge in browser compatibility and HTML bug avoidance
- Ability to produce quality work within tight timelines
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- A good understanding of HTML doctypes
- Experience with templating and code re-use
- A working knowledge of SEO optimization
- Experience with our current technology platforms (ASP.net, LAMP, Java/JSP) is preferred.
- Experience with Perl, Python/Jango, Cold Fusion, or Ruby is a plus.
- Also, strong understanding of CSS2 and Actionscript a plus.
