Scrum Master
Beverly Hills, CA
Spark Networks is seeking a conscientious, driven, energetic, enthusiastic, and effective Scrum Master to provide collaboration, leadership, and coaching skills in support of the development and expansion of our online businesses. We need a “team first” individual to be responsible for enforcing the rules of Scrum, removing impediments from their team, empowering the team, and working closely with other company Scrum Masters to refine and improve the structure and execution of Scrum at the company.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure that Scrum teams adhere to the Scrum concepts, principles, practices, and rules – coaching and teaching whenever necessary – operate as the voice of reason and authority
- Support and facilitate the company’s agile product development process – continually improving our practice of Scrum
- Organize and facilitate all activities and meetings associated with the Scrum framework (e.g. daily stand-up meetings, sprint reviews, sprint retrospectives, sprint and release planning meetings, demos, etc.)
- Look for and remove any impediments for the Scrum team – raising issues with management if necessary
- Track and communicate team velocity progress
- Understand the big-picture goals of the company, and operate accordingly while focusing on the delivery of smaller pieces of that big-picture
- Work with product owners, and business line managers, to properly develop and groom product backlogs and roadmaps – make sure all user stories are immediately actionable, appropriately sized, and testable
- Work with software engineers, and leadership, to ensure they are practicing core agile principles (e.g. removing “technical debt,” pursuing best practices, transparently collaborating, etc.)
- Gather and analyze feedback from the Scrum team and other direct and indirect participants
- Constantly engage, challenge, and encourage the product, creative, and engineering teams
- Communicate clearly, honestly, and in a straightforward manner – promote transparency
- Balance the disparate needs of the team members, and communicate effectively to all involved
- Facilitate discussions and help identify alternative approaches when conflicts arise
- Plan, manage, and coordinate deploys across the QA, DB, and software engineering teams and throughout the product development lifecycle
Qualifications:
- 3+ years developing and launching consumer-facing services and products on the Internet or through mobile devices
- 2+ years of experience as a Scrum Master, project manager, or a product team lead
- 2+ years of experience with agile development processes and short product release cycles
- Bachelor’s degree or combination of relevant education and experience
- Experience with consumer-facing subscription businesses a plus
- Very strong written and verbal communicator – must be engaging and charismatic – must be able to communicate effectively one-on-one, in groups, and across teams
- Team player and a team builder
- Self-starter, able to work successfully with minimal supervision in a time-to-market sensitive environment
- Strong leadership qualities – must be skilled in conflict resolution
